Short Description
Qutuz wanted to set out with his army to meet the Tatar army in Palestine.
The inevitability of fighting in Palestine
Now, it is time to put the war plan and the map according to which the army would move. Qutuz, May Allaah have mercy upon him, met with his military council to discuss the best way to fight the Tatars, and the best circumstances to achieve victory.
Qutuz, May Allaah have mercy upon him, delivered his statement which clarified his opinion about the war plan. As soon as he had given his opinion, the council was irritated. The opinion of Qutuz, May Allaah have mercy upon him, produced great clamor in the military council.
What did Qutuz, May Allaah have mercy upon him, want?
Qutuz, May Allaah have mercy upon him, wanted to set out with his army to meet the Tatar army in Palestine.
He decided not to wait in Egypt until the Tatars would come, but rather to go forth along with his army to face them.
Most emirs objected to that, and preferred that Qutuz should remain in Egypt to defend it. That is because, in the sight of the emirs, his dominion extended over Egypt, not Palestine. The view of the emirs, in this concept, was strictly nationalistic, in the sense that if the Tatars did not enter Egypt, they would avoid a horrific bloody clash with them; and if they went to face them, there would be no alternative other than to fight.
However, the view of Qutuz, May Allaah have mercy upon him, was more extensive.
Qutuz, May Allaah have mercy upon him, began to discuss this with the emirs and explain to them the merits of his plan, the dimensions of his vision, the war objectives in his sight, and the mission of the army from his perspective. Qutuz, May Allaah have mercy upon him, drew their attention to some facts which, for long years, were absent from the minds of many of them.
